To all my wonderful friends at JOLT Youth Ministry, the FUMC Staff, and beyond,
I have been the Youth Director here at the First United Methodist Church in Durango for the past three years and it has been a wonderful journey with each one of you! After much prayer and reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Youth Director at the end of this calendar year. I will still be around FUMC and Durango for the foreseeable future, so we will still see each other, but beginning in January of 2019 I will no longer be in a paid leadership role at FUMC.
I did not make this decision lightly. I felt that to best take care of my own mental health and my family that it is time to move on and let another leader step in and take JOLT to the next level. I plan on doing everything I can to make this transition as smooth as possible for everyone involved in the youth ministry.
I have had such an incredible experience working with every one of you — parents, volunteers, and especially all of you students! You have all been such a blessing to me during good times and bad, and it’s been an absolute honor to share my life with all of you over these years.
If you have any questions or would like to talk to me or Pastor Jeff, we will both be available this Tuesday and Wednesday, September 11th and 12th, for Middle and High School Youth Group. I will also be available to talk to students and parents on the weekend of September 22nd/23rd after SPARK and JOLTED.
Thank you all for your support, and I’m looking forward to these last few months with all of you in this role! The Directional Team at FUMC, which has responsibility for staffing at the church, will be proceeding with a search for the right person to come in and take over the leadership of the youth ministry and I fully trust they will find someone great. Our goal is to have the new person in place by December, so the transition will be as smooth as possible.
There will be a farewell celebration party scheduled some time in December, so we will all have a chance to say our goodbyes and celebrate the amazing things God has done in the youth ministry the past few years. I will keep you all posted when we have decided on a date for the farewell celebration. I would ask for prayers for the church, the JOLT youth ministry and my family as we move through this time of transition.
