Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We are in Big Pine Key parked in the Big Pine United Methodist Church parking lot in our fifth wheel RV. For the last three weeks we have been working on homes in the 30 mile radius of Big Pine Key, Florida. These homes were hit by Hurricane Irma in September 2017. Several of the people that we have been working on their homes have been displaced for over two years. These are the people who did not have insurance.
Our one client, Dennis, had high tide water and wind damage to his home. After the water went away he moved into a tent near his home. Then in April 2018 there was a brush fire and melted Dennis’s tent, so he moved into his shell of a home. He had to leave for awhile to take care of his parents, and when he came back he had lost his commercial fishing license. He has been waiting for help and with the help of the Florida conference and the NOMADS his home is finally being put back together. He is so grateful for the help to get him back into his home. This week a team of seven NOMADS helped him insulate, hang sheetrock and float/tape. He told us if we had not come to his rescue, it would be another year before he would get back in his home.
The NOMADS have disaster rebuilds all over the United States, to check out where the NOMADS are working check out www.nomadsumc.org see the Latest News.
