Our Lighting for Literacy solar light ministry has installed 54 solar lights on the Navajo reservation since October with the help of Melton Tom, our Navajo installer and FUMC volunteers. Because of this ministry we have identified families in extreme poverty without jobs, food, transportation, heat or electricity. We have started to provide Melton with some non-perishable foods to take on his installations to share with those in need.
God has laid a new ministry on our hearts to help these families in need. To our knowledge, there is only one food bank that is in Gallup but these families are unable to travel that far. We would like to setup several food banks in strategic locations to provide food to those families. This ministry will be called “Native Hope”
We have identified one location for a food bank at a Thrift store in Thoreau, NM that is run by St. Bonaventure Indian Mission.
We are continuing to look for other locations through the reservation. If you’d like to help us get started we ask that you bring some non-perishable food items to FUMC the weekends of Feb 16/17 and Feb 23/24. There will also be a box in the atrium for drop-offs during the week. A list of needed items can be picked up in the church office.
We thank you for your support in helping us get this new ministry launched for our friends and neighbors on the Navajo Reservation! If you would like more information, please contact Brody Guion at 720-252-3667 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
