Please join us December 10th at 6:30pm as we gather for this annual all-Church meeting where every member has a vote and everyone has voice and can ask questions. Several things happen at this gathering.
1. We celebrate ministry from this past year, receiving annual reports which look at every area of ministry, including worship, membership, baptisms and giving.
2. We affirm the direction of the church as leadership presents the Ministry Funding Plan and Leadership Nominations for the coming year.
3. We vote on salaries for pastors as required by our United Methodist Book of Discipline.
4. We vote on Candidates for Ordained Ministry who come out of this church, which will include Aaron Strietzel this year as he becomes our Three Springs Campus Pastor.
We will have final discussions and vote on the recommendation of a name change from First United Methodist Church, Durango to Summit Church – a United Methodist Congregation beginning January 1, 2020. This motion comes from our Directional, Adaptive and Executive Leadership Teams after much prayer and discernment.
Leighton Mekeal, Pastor at Community United Methodist Church in Pagosa Springs will preside at our gathering, and Pastor Jeff Huber will return the favor earlier in December, presiding over the Charge Conference at the church in Pagosa Springs. It is common for our District Pastor, Marv Vose, to assign pastors to lead these meetings since he covers all of Utah and Western Colorado.
